“John Clare’s Modern Eco-Poetic Legacy in English” by Sam Hickford

I am pleased to say I am publishing a gigantic research monograph, John Clare’s Modern Eco-Poetic Legacy in English, with Routledge, on October 26, 2026. It will feature original discussions of established, canonical luminaries like Seamus Heaney, Michael Longley, and John Burnside alongside recent innovators like Brenda Hillman, Elizabeth-Jane Burnett, and Maggie O’Sullivan. The theme will be who John Clare is for us now, discussing one of the few shamanic voices who can point out the snipe within the landfill site. It contains dissective studies of contemporary poets, combined with new, manuscript poems by Clare.
